While MS Dhoni and former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Sourav Ganguly’s fans continue to lock horns, megastar Shahrukh Khan seemed to have dropped a bomb. The KKR co-owner in a statement implied that he is interested in acquiring Dhoni for his franchise. Barring the knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Dhoni is yet to light-up the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) with his batting. Despite his waning skills with the willow, Dhoni continues to impress with his top-notch wicketkeeping skills for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and he remains a brand favourite, so much so that King Khan may rope him in at KKR for IPL 2018.
Shah Rukh was quoted as saying by sportswallah.com, “Yaar main toh usko apna Pyjama bech ke bhi kharid lun, wo aaye toh auction mein (I’m ready to sell my pyjama for buying MS Dhoni but that can happen only when he is available for auction right?)”
Contracts for all players will be up for renewal next season, which means the likes of Dhoni and Virat Kohli will be up for the grabs in auction. It does not take rocket science to figure out that they will already be amongst the top fetchers in next year’s IPL auctions. After playing eight seasons for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Dhoni was forced to join the Pune camp after the India Cements owned franchise was suspended for two years. It is quite evident that he does not enjoy the confidence of the bosses, who earlier this year had stripped him off the side’s captaincy.
Once upon a time, Shahrukh had made a statement that he would never part ways with Ganguly and the next season KKR management decided not to retain him. So there is always a question mark here. And even if Shahrukh is serious, he has hurdles in the action. It is expected that India Cements will empty their purse to have their original Captain Cool back at helm.
