Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were demolished by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 27 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. RCB, after winning the toss asked KKR to bat and their bowlers – especially young spinner Yuzvendra Chahal — spun his web around KKR by bowling them out for just 131. But Gautam Gambhir, using his shrewd captaincy, deployed his pace attack consisting Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes, Umesh Yadav and Colin de Grandhomme to bowl out RCB for just 49 runs winning the game by a whopping 82-run margin. Coulter-Nile was adjudged Man of the Match for his impressive figures of 3 for 21. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), IPL 10, Match 27
Speaking in the post match presentation, RCB skipper Virat Kohli fell short of words on his side’s shambolic batting performance. None of the RCB batsman could score runs in double-digit as wicketkeeper-batsman Kedar Jadhav top-scored with 9. “This is our worst batting performance, it really hurts. After the kind of half that we had, we thought we could capitalise and chase it down. It was reckless batting. I can’t say anything at the moment. It was that bad. This is just not acceptable,” said the upset RCB skipper was quoted as saying by PTI.
Kohli himself was dismissed on the very first ball he faced from Coulter-Nile as he was caught in the slip cordon trying to chase an away going delivery. But after getting caught, Kohli was seen pointing towards the sight-screen. When asked about his reactions on the same, Kohli said, “The sight-screen is very small here, one guy got up as the bowler was loading up, that distracted me. Still it wasn’t a big deal. That was just one down. Nine guys could have done the job.”
RCB are currently scraping the bottom of the IPL 2017 points table with 4 points from two victories in seven games. With the group stage coming in its final phase, RCB have some major work to do about their team.
“We need to forget it and move forward. We are a much better team. We got 200 plus in the last game. I’m sure everyone realises what they’ve done wrong. You have to come out, show intent and back yourselves. I’m sure we won’t bat like that again in the tournament,” he said.
