Just like other seasons, the season 10 of Indian Premier League (IPL) has also brought in light a lot of young domestic players who can be prospective future options for the senior Indian cricket team. While many wicketkeeper-batsmen like Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are in the pool, Sam Billings believes it is Rishabh Pant who can fill in the big shoes of MS Dhoni properly. Pant showed dedication, scoring a half-century after losing his father just a day before Delhi Daredevils’ first match and maintained consistency, emerging as one of the most dependable batsmen for the bowling-heavy IPL franchise. “He [Pant] is phenomenal, both as a batsman and a keeper, just looking at the way he has done in these first few games. He was standing up to the stumps, almost Dhoni-esque. There is no doubt in my mind that once MS Dhoni hangs his boots, Pant is the guy (to replace him). Big words I know, but you just see him and it is there,” Billings told Scroll about the youngster. Pant has accumulated 141 runs from four matches including a half-century and is well in the run for the orange cap with his stylish and run-fetching batting.
DD have two victories from four matches and are at No. 4 spot in the IPL 2017 points table. Apart from Pant, his teammate Samson has also impressed one and all with the first century of the season. Zaheer Khan leads the side from front with impressive bowling performance.
