Amidst the hullabaloo of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, Ravindra Jadeja set a trend of #BreaktheBeard with his snazzy avatar during his first IPL 10 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). But on the day when Jadeja was seen sporting this different look, a picture of him standing with Virat Kohli and other Gujarat Lions (GL) players made the rounds. Kohli was seen laughing hysterically pointing towards Jadeja. The picture in no time set social media ablaze and Jadeja finally solved the mystery surrounding the conversation both the Indian players had that day. Apparently, Kohli has nicknamed Jadeja something special, which was part of their brotherly conversation. While speaking to The Quint, Jadeja mentioned, “The picture was taken right before the match with RCB, where Virat started calling me ‘Rajput’. He has nicknamed me that and I feel super proud when he addresses me with that name. Virat and I are like brothers and these fun conversations are a part of our relationship.” Jadeja also revealed why he sported this new look “Everyone in the dressing room looked the same, so I thought, I will try something different. Once Anil Kumble walked up to me when I was sitting with my face down. He thought I was KL Rahul and started speaking in Kannada. Beards have created a lot of confusion in the team.”
Interestingly, Kohli and Jadeja often talk about trying different looks. They also comment on each other’s fashion statements.
But Jadeja insisted that his new look would not hamper this performance during IPL 2017. “You can never relate these things to performance. Your strengths and weaknesses do not change if you lose some hair! I am the sort of a bowler who keeps things simple. It is not that in T20 matches I do things differently. Sab time-time ki baat hain (Everything is dependent on the situation during the match). I was bowling the same when I was the No. 1 bowler in the last test series and I am bowling the same today,” he added.
The #BreaktheBeard trend caught up with other Indian players as well with Hardik Pandya, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma sporting different looks. However, the Indian skipper was in no mood to follow suit, posting about the same on his social media account.
