Former Rising Pune Supergiant skipper MS Dhoni has been reprimanded by the match referee for breaching Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct. Dhoni admitted his Level 1 offence for his conduct on the field that went against the spirit of the game. During the first innings, commentator Kevin Pietersen asked fielder Manoj Tiwary to tell Dhoni that he is a better golfer than him. Upon telling, Dhoni asked his teammate to remind Pietersen that he was Dhoni’s first Test wicket, with a smile on his face. However, Dhoni remained in the limelight when he signalled DRS after umpire turned down Imran Tahir’s lbw appeal off Kieron Pollard. The replay showed that the batsman was plumb. As a result, the match referee’s call is final in the IPL Code of Conduct, and Dhoni had intentionally signalled the review suggesting what the replay confirmed. Dhoni, along with new skipper Steven Smith, guided RPS to a resounding 7-wicket win over MI in the final over of the T20 game at Pune. Chasing 185, Smith smacked a match-winning 84 not out with Ajinkya Rahane (60) and Dhoni (12). Both Smith and Dhoni added 44 runs for the fourth wicket that took RPS to their first-ever win at Pune in IPL.
Talking about Dhoni and Smith, Rahane in the press conference said that Dhoni will always remain the boss of the side despite Smith being the skipper. “Though Steve Smith has led the Australian side very well, for me, MS Dhoni is still the best leader. This was the first game as leader for Smith, but he was learning from Dhoni as well. Smith was seen taking more tips from him. Dhoni was seen giving tips and inputs to Smith in the middle,” Rahane remarked.
