After numerous experiments over years, Mumbai Indians (MI) finally seem to have found the correct opening combination, in Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler. Parthiv and Buttler have given MI flying starts in several matches this season, and their best came against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) with an explosive 81-run stand. During a promotional event, Parthiv mentioned that he would like to continue providing bigger and better starts with Buttler in the remaining matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Parthiv, however, has been unable to get a single fifty this season. But he did credit Buttler saying that his presence gives him a little more time to settle down. Speaking to the reporters, Parthiv first spoke about his form in the season so far: “Winning six games out of eight has been fantastic. The starts have been good, but it is about time that we get bigger ones as well and help the team more. It is good way to start the tournament.” He also spoke about Buttler and his combination: “We gel off the field and enjoy batting together in the middle, the way we have been playing, and it is showing. He likes to go from the outset and I take five-six balls, it allows me to settle. I enjoy batting with him. He is probably the most destructive batsman in the world I have seen.”
Parthiv also let out the success formula for MI: “Irrespective of the wicket, we have a proper balanced bowling attack, we have got six bowlers, who can bowl four overs. We have six options in batting and it is clicking and that is the reason we are at the top of the table.”
MI have won six of eight matches they have played so far. Five of them were played at Wankhede Stadium. Parthiv feels MI need to continue execute their plans well. “Winning six out of eight, we didn’t play all the games home, we also played outside. We don’t worry about where we are playing, it is a matter of executing our plans,” he concluded.
