Gujarat Lions (GL) came tantalisingly close to a win over Mumbai Indians (MI) but Jasprit Bumrah spoiled their party. Gujarat Lions, playing their final home game at Rajkot, came short of 5 runs in the super-over needing 12 runs to win a memorable contest between both sides. For Gujarat Lions it was make-shift opener Ishan Kishan who stood out with the bat making 48 off 35 inclusive of 6 fours and 2 sixes. If it was not for Kishan Gujarat Lions might have bundled out for less than 100. Kishan, in the post-match conference, spoke in length about the team’s performance against MI. Kishan started with talking about Gujarat Lions’ bowling, who were under the pump to defend 154. ”Actually it was all about belief that our bowlers will do it this time, the fielding unit they were very good. In the previous matches also you must have seen the catches all very were good in the field. We know that we just have to put a good effort on the field and we can do this, and definitely that happened in the middle,” he said.
Kishan was quick to praise Bumrah’s super over brilliance as well. He added, “Actually he bowled a very good over, if any batsmen was there it was very tough for him to hit a six or a boundary on a yorker ball. If you would have noticed his slower ball that was also a yorker. So all and all it was a perfect over for Mumbai Indians.”
Talking about the slowness in the pitch Kishan explained, “Actually the wicket was very slow in this match, we didn’t expect it to be that slow. Wicket was looking very good. You know in T20, specially in T20 it is very difficult to hit a six or a boundary. And you know they [MI] were bowling in the right area, was not like we missed any bad balls or anything.”
