Axar Patel put on a great all-round show as Kings XI Punjab beat Gujarat Lions by 26 runs in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot.
Axar first played a great hand in the death overs to help Punjab cross the 180-run mark and then picked up two crucial wickets to break the backbone of Gujarat's batting line-up during their chase.
KXIP were staring at a score of somewhere in the region of 150 but Axar changed the complexion of the match in final few overs. In the penultimate over of the innings, Axar hit two huge sixes and one four on the first three balls off Dwayne Smith.
Axar faced 17 balls in the innings before getting out and smashed 34 runs, courtesy of three fours and two sixes.
While during Gujarat's chase, Axar picked up the prize wickets of skipper Suresh Raina and big-hitter Dwayne Smith to help Punjab defend their score. Raina was going great guns but Axar cut his innings short at 32.
As for Smith, the West Indian came out to bat with the intentions of hitting the ball out of the park and even hit a boundary before getting dismissed by Axar for 4.
