The gentlemen’s game cricket has had its fair share of on-field tussles. Even in the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been instances when players have lost their cool and fought with each other on the field. Who can forget the visuals of a crying Sreesanth after a clash with Harbhajan Singh in the inaugural IPL or the view of a furious Gautam Gambhir charging towards Virat Kohli during an IPL game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2013? In the ongoing season too Gambhir’s name has been dragged in a fresh controversy with Rising Pune Supergiant Player (RPS) player Manoj Tiwary.
On Wednesday, during the KKR versus RPS clash at Pune, Gambhir and Tiwary were reportedly involved in a verbal spat. The incident took place in the 15th over of KKR’s innings, when Gambhir was in the middle. He was seen exchanging some words with Tiwary. The spat went on for long and was still on when Gambhir was at the non-striker’s end. Watch the video here:

On Friday, a report in daily Dainik Bhaskar stated that the two had a spat. However, the details of the report were similar to that of the 2015 episode during a Ranji game, thus raising doubt over its credibility. In 2015, during a Ranji Trophy clash between Bengal and Delhi at Feroz Shah Kotla, the two nearly exchanged blows with each other. The episode resulted in both the players being fined — 70 percent of match fees for Gambhir and 40 percent for Tiwary. Also, the video is inconclusive as far as a fight between the two is concerned.
Now, it is for the readers to decide whether the two players indeed get involved in a fight during the IPL 2017 game. As for the match between KKR and RPS, Gambhir scored a brilliant fifty to power the team to a 7-wicket victory. Tiwary too has been in fine nick for his side RPS.
