Match No. 19 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) produced some nail-biting cricket between two equally matched sides in Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Chasing a modest 160 to win, Manan Vohra (95) carried his bat till the 19th over only to see his side lose. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who continued his splendid show with the ball picking up his T20 career-best of 5 for 19 in his side’s 5-run win. Warner, in the presentation ceremony, said, “An unbelievable game of cricket. Credit to Manan, the way he played. I was down on myself not getting momentum. It was a tough wicket. Credit to Bhuvi tonight, he was unbelievable. He (Manan) made it look easy when he was clearing the ropes. But unfortunately there has to be one winner and it was us.”
Warner did not let Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan’s performances go unnoticed as well. “Fantastic contribution from both of the Afghanistan players. A bit disappointing with Rashid, he always holds high regards for himself, he was disappointed a bit,” Warner added.
“As I keep reiterating to the boys, last year we won a couple of close games. These games really gain momentum because you have that self belief. Thanks again for the crowd who supported us here,” Warner concluded.
Batting first it was Warner’s unbeaten 70-run knock that helped SRH reach 159 after Mohit Sharma and KC Cariappa made early inroads. This was also Warner’s fifth consecutive half-century against KXIP in IPL.
