After yet another horrific performance at home in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lost to Gujarat Lions (GL) on Thursday. Coming on the back of a horrendous show against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), wherein RCB were all-out for 49 (the lowest IPL score), Virat Kohli-led side succumbed to a 7-wicket loss against Suresh Raina’s men. Wicketkeeper-batsman Kedar Jadhav urged his side to click as a unit as RCB now have to win all their remaining games to stay alive in the competition. Jadhav looked good for his 18-ball 31 but fell to Ravindra Jadeja as GL bundled out RCB to 134, and won the game with 37 balls to spare. “Obviously, you have to bat according to the situation. Sometimes, if a batsman is feeling good about his game and playing his shots, then the coach cannot tell you to hold on and build a partnership. It was those days where our batsmen got out to soft dismissals. Like mine and AB (de Viliers). It was one of those days when we did not click as a unit and did well in patches”, stated the 32-year-old in the post-match conference.
On being asked how RCB will look ahead of recovery, Jadhav concluded, “7-8 players doing well on a day, that is how we can start creating momentum for us. We need to click at once. In 20-overs game, a team should always give more preference to their best batters. Obviously, we have been getting chances but not clicking despite enough opportunities. The top batters should bat more overs. That is how it should be.”
GL moved to the sixth position with this victory whereas RCB are languishing at the seventh spot in the points table.
