Visakhapatnam: Shreyas Iyer’s lightning hundred propelled India U-19 to an 18-run win over Australia U-19 in rain-hit match of the Quadrangular tournament on Friday.
The hosts had beaten South Africa and Zimbabwe in the earlier stages.
After India elected to bat at the ACA-VDCA Stadium, Shreyas smashed 109 off just 67 balls, with 10 fours and six sixes, as India U-19 posted a huge 321 for five. He was supported by Ricky Bhui (66) in a 170-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Opener Akhil Herwadkar (56) had earlier contributed a useful fifty.
In their chase, the Australians reached 156 for three in 30 overs – opener Kelvin Smith top-scoring with a quick 74 - before rain stopped play and handed India victory by 18 runs by the Duckworth-Lewis method.
