After registering convincing victories in their first two World T20 matches, the Indian players got a day off on Monday.
While most of them preferred the luxury of their rooms, others like Yuvraj Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar hit the hotel gymnasium and the swimming pool.
They were, however, not asked to indulge in any training by the coach or team management as it was an off day for players as well as the coaching and support staff.
Taking advantage of the rest day, Team India coach Duncan Fletcher, bowling coach Joe Dawes and fielding coach Trevor Penney went out for a round of golf together and returned late in the afternoon. Penny and Dawes seem to have brought their own golf clubs.
The players and the coaches can afford to relax as the team looks set to enter the semi-finals after easy wins over Pakistan and the West Indies in Group 2 of the Super 10 round. The victories were sweeter as almost all the players contributed to them.
The players would have another off day on Tuesday. "There is no practice scheduled for tomorrow as well,” Indian team’s media manager R. N. Baba told Mail Today . On Monday, the players came down from their rooms either to have a pool/ gymnasium session or to have meals.
In the afternoon, suddenly there was some activity in the hotel lobby as Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh and a few others came down the escalator to have lunch in Jharna, one of the two restaurants in the team hotel that they have been frequenting.
About eight girls, with autograph books in their hands, kept a close eye on them from the lobby and as soon as the Indians emerged from the restaurant they approached them for autographs.
But the hotel and police security that is always on its toes inside – as well as outside – the hotel prevented them from going near the players, and a hotel staffer was seen asking them to leave the hotel.
