India, South Africa qualify for 2014 Women's WT20

India women’s left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht took a hat-trick helping her side beat Sri Lanka in the qualifier game for the 2014 Women’s World Twenty20.

India chased down Sri Lanka’s 100-8 easily with nine wickets and 31 balls to spare at the Nondescripts Cricket Club in Colombo. The game was one of the play-offs at the 2012 Women’s World Twenty20.

Bisht dismissed Dilani Surangika, Yasoda Mendis and Eshani Kaushalya in the final over of the innings for the hat-trick to finish with figures of 3-16. She then ran out Sandamali Dolawatte to make it four wickets in four balls.

India lost opener Sulakshna Naik after a start of 38 runs in just four overs, but Poonam Raut (45*) and skipper Mithali Raj (28*) knocked off the remaining runs.

India had lost all their three league games in the tournament to finish last in Group A. They also lost by one run to Pakistan.

South Africa beat Pakistan

In the other game today, South Africa struggled to beat Pakistan. Chasing just 88, South Africa needed 14 off the last two overs and were five down. Dane van Niekerk and Shabnim Ismail were able to knock off the runs with one ball to spare.

Ismail’s 3-19 earlier helped restrict Pakistan to just 87-8. With the win, South Africa qualified for the 2014 Women’s World Twenty20.
