India ‘A’ ask Australia to follow on

WARM-UP GAME: Watson, Cowan provide another century stand as match ends in draw.

Left-arm spinner Rakesh Dhruv and off-spinner Jalaj Saxena took nine wickets between as India ‘A’ exposed Australia’s weaknesses against the turning ball in a practice game in Chennai.

Dhruv, who plays for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy, took 5-51 while Saxena, of Madhya Pradesh, took 4-61 to bowl the Australians out for 235 in their first innings. Captain Gautam Gambhir enforced the follow-on with a lead of 216 and the game finally ended in a draw with Shane Watson and Ed Cowan producing another century stand for the opening wicket.

Watson, who had made a quick 84 in the first innings, made 60 in just 63 balls today. He added 104 with Cowan who made 53.

Dhruv and Saxena took a wicket each today in the second innings.

In the morning, Matthew Wade (44) and Moises Henriques (33) tried to forge a partnership for the fifth wicket but after the latter got out with the scoreboard reading 176, the spinners ripped through the lower order and bowled out the opposition in no time.
