ICC fines Lehmann 20 percent of match fee for `cheating Broad outburst`

Johannesburg, Aug 23 (ANI): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly fined Australian coach Darren Lehmann 20 percent of his match fee for his outburst accusing England bowler Stuart Broad of 'blatant cheating' in the Ashes opener at Trent Bridge.

According to Sport24, Broad angered Australia after he admitted that he had nicked the ball and still refused to walk during a match-turning innings in the Ashes opener at Trent Bridge, although he defended his actions.

Claiming that his team has not forgiven Broad, Lehmann said that Broad had committed 'blatant cheating' and hoped that the Australian public attacks Broad right from the beginning of the return Ashes series till the end and send him back to England crying.

However, the report said that the former Australian batsman was found to have breached the ICC code of conduct covering players, match officials and support staff which relates to 'public criticism or inappropriate comment' regarding the afore-mentioned individuals.

As a result, the report added that 20 percent was deducted from Lehmann's match fee, a penalty said to be around to some 3,000 dollars, by match referee Roshan Mahanama at The Oval after stumps on Thursday's second day of the fifth Test.

According to ICC chief executive David Richardson, noting the context and nature of the comments made, showing mutual respect for one's fellow professionals, including for coaches, players and match officials, is a cornerstone of how the game is played. (ANI)
