Guwahati, Dec 5: Hosts Ankurjyoti Club handed a 52-run defeat to Brahmaputra Boys Club in the inaugural match of the Ankurjyoti Challenge limited-overs cricket tournament for Ratan Lal Singhania and Mohini Devi Singhania Trophy at Judges Field here today.

Opting to bat, Ankurjyoti were restricted to 166 for nine in 35 overs and Brahmaputra Boys were all out for 114 in 29.1 overs.

Rohit Sharma topscored for Ankurjyoti with 42 runs, hitting six boundaries while 30 runs came from the bat of Ambar Bhattacharjee. Subham Mandal also contributed 27 runs.

Arunav Sarma of Brahmaputra Boys took the scalp of three for 35 runs and Prasanta Haloi picked up two for 28.

For Brahmaputra Boys, Sonu Kumar Shah scored 36 and Biswajit Choudhury contributed 17.

Ambar Bhattacharjee hauled five wickets for 19 runs.

Tomorrow, New Star Club will clash with Genesis Club.

School tournament

Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya, Nalbari defeated St John's English School by 32 runs in the inaugural match of the Ankurjyoti Challenge under-14 tournament for Ashwini Rajbangshi Trophy, which is also organised by Ankurjyoti Club, at Latasil ground here today.
