Hope to make the most of my form: Watson

Watson is perplexed at the Proteas’ inability to make it big at ICC tournaments.

Colombo: Shane Watson is on a roll. He’s enjoying the success, can’t stop smiling and hoping to make the most of the good times.

“I suppose things are just falling into place… It’s important to go through the first 4-5 overs in any match."

“I did just that and then took it from there… Just hoping to make the most of my form,” said Watson after picking his fourth Man of the Match in as many matches in the World T20.

The all-rounder refused to rate which gave him more satisfaction — beating South Africa on Sunday or the victory against India. “I would say both… Beating India is a huge challenge. South Africa are a world class team. They have an amazing amount of talent. We knew we had to be at our best to beat them.”

‘Ausome’ Watson stars as Australia thrash South Africa

Watson is perplexed at the Proteas’ inability to make it big at ICC tournaments.

“At every ICC tournament, they have a very balanced team. I’m very surprised they aren’t able to dominate world cricket… They have quality players in all forms of the game. I’m not exactly sure why this happens with South Africa,” he said.

AB de Villiers blamed the loss on “losing too many wickets at the early stages” and “failing to get the momentum going”. “We didn’t play well enough tonight (Sunday night).”

He was all praise for Watson.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t get Watson out… He’s a world class player and if he gets going, you’ve to face the consequences. I think we bowled well but still failed to dismiss him. He’s going to take the game away if you don’t get Watson out early…”
