Holiday surprise for HEC

If Ranchi is on fever pitch, can Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) be far behind?

The manufacturing major, which had in 2008 donated land for the international cricket stadium in Dhurwa, has declared a holiday at all its plants and offices in the capital for the third ODI between India and England on Saturday.

However, in lieu of this unscheduled leave, employees will have to work on Sunday (January 20). Those working in shifts at the three plants of HEC ' foundry forge, heavy machine tools and heavy machine building ' have been asked to follow the duty roster assigned for January 19.

A circular issued by HEC general manager (personnel and administration) A.C. Deogharia said that since large crowds were expected to turn out for the ODI at the stadium, which is located in the middle of its residential township, employees might have to face communication problems. So, a holiday was being declared.

The circular added that in case employees in Ranchi were requisitioned for duty on Saturday by their respective plant in-charge to ensure normalcy in essential services, they would be entitled to overtime allowance and a weekly off as per company rules.

On June 20, 2008, the HEC had signed an MoU with JSCA to transfer 31.07 acres. The high court had fixed price at Rs 50 lakh per acre. The land was transferred for Rs 15.85 crore.
