Heavy rains affect over two mn in China

Beijing, Aug 10 (IANS) At least 2.28 million people were affected due to heavy rainfall in northeast China, authorities said Saturday

Rainstorms caused waterlogging in parts of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Inner Mongolia.

Rain-triggered flooding ruined 1.07 million hectares of crops or plants, resulting in direct economic losses of $1.06 billion, reported Xinhua citing the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.

Flood prevention work along the Songhuajiang River is underway.
