New Delhi, Aug 18 (ANI): Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has expressed deep sorrow on the passing away of eminent cardiologist from Kashmir Dr. Sheikh Jalal-ud-Din.
Azad along with his wife Shameem called on the bereaved wife and son of Dr Jalal, who was former Director of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, at AIIMS here yesterday to convey their condolences.
In a statement, Azad said, "It is most unfortunate that Dr Jalal-ud-Din is no more with us. He was a very eminent cardiologist of the Valley and a caring doctor, who has been rendering high class super-specialty services to the people of Valley even after his superannuation."
Azad said Dr Jalal, though a doctor of high repute, used his knowledge and skills for the well being of the people of State without any material considerations, notwithstanding the fact he could have got a lucrative job in any best private hospital of the country or even abroad, but he chose to serve his countrymen.
He said Dr Jalal belonged to that rare breed of medical professionals who considered it their duty and privilege to serve the people.
Azad also acclaimed his rich contributions as Vice-President of National Board of Examination, a national level institution, under the Ministry of health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
He said: "In his death, we lost a devoted and highly motivated human being who was always willing to help others. His services will be remembered for years to come."
It is pertinent to mention that Dr Jalal breathed his last in AIIMS, New Delhi on Saturday where he was under treatment ever since he was airlifted from Srinagar.
Dr Jalal was seriously injured in a brutal attack carried out by gun-wielding militants in his hometown at Pampore near Srinagar. (ANI)
