The high court on Thursday passed yet another order asking police to be more active in taking measures against cars using beacons illegally.
"The police will have to take more initiative to identify the persons using beacons atop their cars illegally and take proper action against them," the division bench of Chief Justice A.K. Mishra and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said.
In response to a question from the bench, the state lawyer submitted that the government had published the list of people entitled to the beacon. The bench asked the government to continue the publicity drive. "Even after the court's repeated rulings, a large number of people are using beacons illegally," petitioner Idris Ali, a lawyer, submitted before the bench.
In a separate case, a division bench headed by Justice Asim Kumar Roy had issued a series of orders to stop unauthorised use of beacons.
