Handicapped woman's rapist jailed for 10 years

Gurgaon, Sep 21 (IANS) A fast track court Saturday sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a handicapped married woman here in May.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Alka Malik pronounced the sentence on Haryana Roadways bus conductor Devender Kumar, 24, after finding him guilty of raping the 32-year-old woman, who was his neighbour.

The court also fined the convict Rs.31,000 and will have to spend seven more months in the jail if he fails to pay up.

The incident happened May 3 in Naurangpur village under Kherki Daula police station.

According to the charge-sheet filed by police, the victim, who is partially paralyzed and the mother of two children, was targeted by Devinder Kumar while she had gone to the fields.

An FIR was registered and the accused arrested May 13 after an inquiry ordered by commissioner of police's office May 11.
