At one stage, Gujarat Lions (GL) appeared clear favourites in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016. Suresh Raina and his men edged past the best of the teams. But they could not maintain the zeal and enthusiasm in the final hurdle. They stumbled instead. Though they ended in the top four, a win could have been a fitting end to a wonderful start. However, now that the 10th edition will be their last attempt to lift the coveted trophy, they will leave no stone unturned to make their dream come true. Raina, who has not been in the scenes of late, will resume his favourite journey. Given Virat Kohli is out for a few weeks due to injury, Raina is likely to surpass his tally of runs and become the highest run-scorer in this Indian domestic spectacle. Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017 Preview: Will Raina-led team go the distance in IPL 10?
GL do not have enough history, like the other franchises. They, however, have players who have a knack of breaking records. From Raina to Ravindra Jadeja to Brendon McCullum, all these players turn the fortunes in no time when they fire on all cylinders. All the same, Jadeja is likely to miss the first three weeks due to fatigue after a long, toiled season of Test cricket.
Let us walk through the list made by CricketCountry’s statistician Abhishek Kumar.
GL have played only one season, but there were only 3 players who played all the matches (yes, not even Raina).

But you can’t keep Raina out of the limelight when it comes to IPL. In fact, Raina and IPL records are two sides of the same coin.
Aaron Finch is not too far behind, you know.
Finch, again, takes the cake.
Surprisingly, Raina has hit only 10 sixes so far. Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum take care of clearing the ground.
This may take you aback a bit. India’s Dhawal Kulkarni is ahead of Chaaampion Dwayne Bravo in the bowling field.
Praveen Kumar has bowled most number of maidens for KXIP, but he comes second here. Kulkarni continues to be in a commanding position.
Kulkarni tops again but shares the prominent spot with Smith.
These economies are not impressive but Kulkarni rules it here as well.

Smith has, somehow, managed to keep Raina out of action. Had these stats not been dished out, we would not have known about Smith’s contribution.
If Dinesh Karthik is in the house, McCullum decides not to take the keeping gloves.
Karthik is nimble with his footwork, athletic with his dives, and safe with catching.
All in all, no GL player has taken a hat-trick, five-for, or hundred. Well, given the kind of players they have in their armoury, we might as well see these tables being filled.
