Gujarat Congress leaders submit memorandum to President Mukherjee against graft

New Delhi, June 28 (ANI): Congress leaders from Gujarat submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee about the presence of tainted legislators belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and against the misrule of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Congress leaders, led by Shankar Singh Vaghela and Shakti Singh Gohil, met President Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here and submitted a memorandum about many state cabinet ministers who have criminal cases against them.

"We came to request the honourable President of India that he, being the head of the nation state, should go through the information which we have procured through the Governor of Gujarat regarding the 32 legislators who have criminal cases against them. Gujarat is being run by goons. We have expressed this to the honourable President of India," said Vaghela.

"We have requested him to get the full information. He has said that he would talk to the Prime Minister and then take the necessary steps ahead. The honourable President has given us this assurance," he added.

Gohil on his part questioned the credibility of Modi, who is eyeing to occupy the Prime Minister's post in 2014.

"He (Modi) roams around the country and has got in a PR agency from the US, and says that his administration is the best. We have tried to find out how the state of affairs is under this man. There are 32 legislators with serious criminal charges. If Modi's development model is a success and his name brings in votes, then why are criminals sitting as ministers? Why are criminals sitting as legislators? His development model is fake, his encounter is fake, his talks are fake, and we cannot expect morality from him. Morals and Modi never travel together," he said.

Modi, who is seen by many to be the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, has been appointed as the chief of party's poll panel. (ANI)
