Guwahati, Jan. 16: Hosts Gauhati Town Club today registered a five-wicket win against Ankurjyoti Club in a group league match of the Ramesh Barooah Trophy invitation cricket tournament at Judges Field here. The win, however, could not take them to the next round.
Ankurjyoti Club elected to bat and posted 191 for seven in the 40 overs. In reply, GTC reached 196 for five in 30.2 overs.
Bastab Hazarika topscored for GTC with an unbeaten 76, facing only 59 balls of which he slammed nine fours and three sixes. Nayan J. Deka (46, 4x6) and Nitin Das (16, 4x1) were the other notable scorers for the side.
Raju Kalita of Ankurjyoti Club bagged two wickets for 47 runs. Subham Mandal and Asif W. Haque also picked up a wicket each.
Earlier, Prahlad Gayan scored 46 (4x5, 6x2) for Ankurjyoti Club while Raju Kalita contributed 42 (4x3, 6x3) and Rahul Kumar chipped in with 24 (4x3).
Chandan Roy of GTC picked up two wickets for 43 runs. Deep Borah and Aryaman Pangal also claimed a wicket each.
Navajyoti Club will meet Genesis Club in the first semi-final tomorrow. River Rine Club will play Bud Cricket Club in the other semi-final on Friday.
ACA grants: The Assam Cricket Association has extended a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Ranji cricketer Sujoy Tarafdar to treat his injured knee in Mumbai. The ACA has also released Rs 30,000 for the treatment of ailing former state panel umpire Rupu Chanda in Chennai
