Grenade seized from police station in Assam

Guwahati, Jan 23 (IANS) Barely two days after a police station was attacked, a grenade was seized from the compound of another police station Wednesday, Assam Police said. The grenade, suspected to have been lobbed by militants, did not explode.

The grenade was seized from Kakopathar police station in Tinsukia district in the evening.

"It is suspected that the militants lobbed the grenade targeting the police personnel in the police station. However, the safety pin of the grenade was not removed and it did not explode," police superintendent P.P. Singh told IANS.

On Monday, suspected militants of the anti-talk faction of outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam triggered a blast on a civilian truck in front of Namtola police station, located along the Assam-Nagaland border in Sivsagar district, and fired a few rounds at the police station, injuring one policeman.
