Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) fielding coach R Sridhar marked team’s captain Glenn Maxwell as the most technically-perfect fielder of the side. Sridhar recently spoke about the different aspects and elements of fielding, and distinguished between the fielding skills of Ravindra Jadeja, David Miller, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. Sridhar lauded KXIP’s fielding efforts in the match against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), saying they did well except from the miscommunication between T Natarajan and Manan Vohra, which cost them a crucial catch. He also named Mohit Sharma among the top fielders in the side, while calling Wriddhiman Saha the best wicketkeeper in the world. “Like batting and bowling, fielding has got some technique,” Sridhar told Cricbuzz. “The way you position yourself at slips, the way you position yourself when you are going for a direct hit. Every single element while fielding – the side-arm throw, the under-arm throw, running back, taking a high catch, whatever skill you are talking about, there is technique involved in it. Most fielders are technically good. In Kings XI Punjab, Glenn Maxwell is the most technically-perfect fielder. I am very happy with how the fielding unit is and how the players have evolved over the last four-five years,” he added.
“We have the luxury of having some of the best fielders in the world in Glenn Maxwell and David Miller, and then we have Mohit Sharma, who is the best fast-medium bowling fielder in the world by a huge margin. We also have some Indian youngsters, who are really good fielders. We have our fielding KPIs in place, and we are constantly assessing that. Apart from one miscommunication between T Natarajan and Manan Vohra (in the opening game against Rising Pune Supergiant), our fielding was good. We are pretty happy with the way we are evolving as a fielding unit and looking forward to getting better from here,” Sridhar concluded.
