Cape Town, Feb 3 (IANS) Ghana reached the semifinals of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after beating Cape Verde Islands 2-0.
Ghana will face the quarterfinal winner between Burkina Faso and Togo, reports Xinhua.
In Saturday's match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, Ghana took the lead after its substitute Mubarak Wakaso shot the first goal when he fired home a penalty kick in the 54th minute.
Cape Verde pressed for an equaliser but its attacks were neutralised by Ghana whose defence was hard to get behind.
Wakaso doubled Ghana's advantage in stoppage time from a breakaway when he ran half the length of the pitch to slot the ball into an empty net after Cape Verde committed every player, including goalkeeper Vozinha, upfield for a corner.
