George W. Bush discharged from hospital

Beijing, Aug. 8(Xinhua-ANI): Former U.S. President George W. Bush has been discharged from a hospital in the state of Texas Wednesday after successfully going through a heart surgery, his spokesman said.

Freddy Ford said the 67-year-old ex-president is "doing great" and went home Wednesday morning. Further details were not released.

Bush had a stent procedure at a Dallas hospital Tuesday at the recommendation of his doctors who found a blockage in the artery of the former president's heart during a physical examination Monday.

The procedure at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas went off "without complication" and Bush was "in high spirits" right after the surgery, Ford said then.

Ford said Bush is expected to resume his normal schedule by Thursday.

The 43rd president of the United States has no previous history of heart trouble.

The daily USA Today reported Bush's heart surgery caught the political world by surprise. Bush was among the most physically active presidents, with frequent exercise that ranged from early morning workouts to bike rides.

Since leaving office, Bush has hosted an annual 100-kilometer mountain bike ride for wounded troops, the most recent in May. The president is scheduled to host a golf tournament for wounded warriors later this summer, and aides indicated his plans would not change. (Xinhua-ANI)
