Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain Gautam Gambhir said after the match against Delhi Daredevils that he will donate all the prize money he earns from this IPL to the Sukma (district in Chhattisgarh) victims’ families.
Gambhir, who scored 71 runs off 52 balls against Delhi on Friday, won the man of the match award for his effort.
The left-hand opening batsman made his statement during the presentation ceremony, he said:
Gautam GambhirWhatever I have earned till now and whatever awards (I earn later in the tournament), all the money goes to the CRPF jawans, who got murdered in Sukma. I think that I am a very proud Indian and I want to contribute and hopefully everyone can contribute. They give their lives for us, hopefully we can at least do this much.
Earlier in the day, Gambhir also said that his foundation will take care of the entire education expenses of the children of the 25 CRPF personnel who were killed in the Sukma attack earlier this week.
The CRPF personnel passed away during an encounter with Naxals on Monday.
