Former ICC chief slams PCB for rescheduling President's Cup match for IPL coverage

Karachi, Apr 18 (ANI): Former International Cricket Council (ICC) president Ehsan Mani has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for accommodating the coverage of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) by changing the schedule of its President's Cup one-day tournament.

The semi-final between Habib Bank Limited and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited was forced to start an hour earlier after the broadcaster's directive to accommodate live coverage of the IPL match that was due to start later in the afternoon, the Express Tribune reports.

According to the report, several players and officials from both sides criticised the decision and lamented that the PCB undermined a national event for IPL.

Terming the players' grievances as fair, Mani said that changing the President's Cup schedule for the IPL is embarrassing for players, adding that it is important for the PCB to promote domestic cricket instead of undermining it at this time.

According to Mani, the PCB is responsible for safeguarding and promoting domestic cricket because they are not hosting any international events at the moment.

Stating that the board cannot be run fairly under the current set-up, Mani said that the process of hiring the chairman, adding that there is no accountability for a chairman who is handpicked by the country's president. (ANI)
