Federer's dismal run continues with straight-set loss in Gstaad

Washington, July 26 (ANI): Roger Federer continued his recent dismal run after crashing out to Daniel Brands of Germany in straight sets in the ATP tournament at Gstaad, which was his first appearance in the ATP 250 tournament since nine years.

According to CNN, Brands beat the top seed 6-3,6-4, although Federer beat him in Hamburg last week.

The report said that the Swiss maestro is still experimenting with a larger racquet head and the defeat continues a sorry run for the 17-time Grand Slam champion, losing in the second round of his Wimbledon title defense and then falling at the semifinal stage in Germany on his return to action.

Federer said after his defeat that he had been suffering with back problems and only after the warm up that day had he decided whether he would play or not, finally choosing to go ahead because he was returning to a Swiss venue.

Meanwhile, Brands, ranked 55th in the world, was always on top, serving decisively with 11 aces and achieving a single break against the favorite in each set, the report added. (ANI)
