Fake Apple iOS7 update advert fools owners into destroying devices

London, Sept. 24 (ANI): A fake Apple advert, which claimed that the iOS7 update would make iPhones and iPads waterproof, has reportedly fooled some owners into damaging their own devices.

The advert circulated on social media sites and claimed that updating the device with the new OS will install a 'smart switch' that cuts off the phone's power supply when waer is detected, thereby, preventing any damage to the phone's delicate circuitry.

According to Sky News, the advert looks remarkably similar to an authentic Apple advertisement, and happened to fool users who dunked their gadgets into water only to end up destroying their expensive gadgets.

The report said that the prank idea is believed to have originally started on the controversial forum 4Chan.

The iOS 7 software update was released last week, and is available as a free upgrade for newer models of the iPhones and iPads. (ANI)
