Ex-Pak player Basit Ali advises Umar Akmal to take cricket seriously

Islamabad, Apr 21 (ANI): Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has criticised Umar Akmal, saying that although Akmal is talented, he needed to take a more serious view of cricket.

Ali had coached the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) team, including players like Akmal and led by Pakistan's Test and ODI captain Misbah-ul-Haq, which won the recently concluded President's Cup One Day tournament, www.PakPassion.net reports.

However, Ali said that Akmal had not performed well in the tournament, adding that he needed to take the game seriously by maintaining his focus, instead of listening to people who say that he is batting too low in the order.

Ali further said that Akmal needed to utilise his talent at whatever position he is batting, adding that for a batsman, performance is the most crucial aspect of his career.

Citing the example of Misbah, Ali said that with his performance, the Test skipper has silenced and impressed his critics, who had previously wanted him out of the team, adding that Akmal needed to follow Misbah's example.

Ali further said that Akmal will have to think about his future and make sure that he does not get left behind by the game, adding that cricket is a sport where a player has to face a lot of struggle and heartbreak before he can succeed.

Expressing his disappointment over the Pakistan squad's fitness levels, Ali said that they have to be increased in order to secure the team's future in both domestic and international levels. (ANI)
