London, Sept 13 (ANI): Stand-in England captain Eoin Morgan has reportedly backed opener Michael Carberry to prove that he can perform at the top level in the final two ODIs against Australia, starting in Cardiff tomorrow.
The Hampshire player has endured a terrible time in recent games, his 15 runs in three knocks ending in a run-out in Wednesday's abandoned ODI at Edgbaston after a mix-up with teammate Kevin Pietersen, which followed cheap dismissals against Ireland and Australia at Old Trafford.
However, Morgan said that he believes that Carberry deserves to play in the national team for the rest of the series, adding that even though Carberry had a hard time, he is experienced enough to know that a player will have ups and downs in his career.
Morgan also said that he and the entire team is backing Carberry because they have seen the amount of hard work he puts in and the success that he has had during his previous games, adding that Carberry is anxious to get 'stuck in' and prove the type of player that he is.
England is likely to have the same side in Cardiff, although Chris Jordan remains a possible debutant with Joe Root looking in need of a rest, the report added. (ANI)
