English rugby player battling for life following 'sickening' hammer attack on head

London, Sept 3 (ANI): An English rugby player is reportedly battling for his life after a claw hammer was stuck in his head following a horrific attack near a bar.

According to the Mirror, Scunthorpe Rugby Club player Matthew Probert was taken to the hospital after he was attacked outside a nightclub with the tool embedded deep in his skull, just inches above his left eye, although surgeons removed the hammer in an hour-long operation.

Probert's condition came into the light of the media after the surfacing of a photograph, which was taken by a clubber in Lincoln, England near the Revolution Bar.

The report further said that a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was being grilled by police following the incident last night.

Thanking well-wishers for their messages of support, Probert's friends and family said that he seems to be making a good recovery and his speech has not been affected after the operation.

However, they said that the player is still under observation, adding that he is lucky to be alive. (ANI)
