England look fragile: Pujara

Ahmedabad: After leading his team to a 500-plus score with a brilliant double century, Cheteshwar Pujara said at a press conference that the way the Englishmen are batting, having lost three wickets in 18 overs, proves that the visitors have a fragile batting line-up.

The following are excerpts

The secret of his big scores

I've done the same thing in domestic cricket as well. I never like to get out. I always put a price on my wicket. Even after scoring a double hundred, I never wanted to give away my wicket. That's the reason why I'm able to score big runs.

The motivation…

It was good that I got out on 87 in the practice game. If I had ended up scoring a hundred, I wouldn't have had the same motivation to score a hundred and then turn it into a double hundred .

On what did he tell himself after scoring the century

After getting my century, I knew I had the responsibility of taking India to a big total. It was important for me to stay there … The target was to get at least 500 on the board. I tried to do just that.

If he was comfortable while facing the England bowlers

I was comfortable facing all the bowlers... Initially my concern was Graeme Swann, because I hadn't faced him before. But after I faced a couple of overs against him, I felt that I could manage.

Batting at the No.3 position

It's always important to bat up the order... Batting at No.3 is a huge responsibility. You are most of the time facing the new ball… I like taking challenges.

His future in the Indian team

I'm not worried about the future… I never take my place in the Indian team for granted. To me, each and every game is important.

If there was any pressure on him

To be honest, there was no pressure on me… I did pretty well in the New Zealand series as well. I just try to be my natural self.

Whether coach (Duncan) Fletcher has a role to play in his success

Fletcher's approach is very simple… He has good knowledge of the game but he doesn't interfere in the batsman's technique too much. He gave a few tips and that helped.

If he has spoken to Rahul Dravid

I got a message from Dravid congratulating me.

The Motera wicket

There is nothing wrong with the wicket... It's just that we have utilised the conditions better. We've already got three wickets and the ball is turning.

If it would be very difficult for England to make a comeback

It's going to be a challenging task for them… The way they were batting it looked like they were a fragile batting line-up for sure.
