Egypt shortens curfew hours

Cairo, Sep 19 (IANS) The Egyptian government decided Thursday to shorten the curfew, imposed in 14 governorates, by two hours weekdays and by one hour Fridays.

Starting from Saturday, the curfew will start at 12 midnight (10 p.m. GMT) instead of 11 p.m. (9 p.m. GMT), and will end at 5 a.m. (3 a.m. GMT) instead of 6 a.m. (4 a.m. GMT); but Fridays, the curfew will continue to start at 7 p.m. (5 p.m. GMT) but will end one hour earlier at 5 a.m. (3 a.m. GMT), Xinhua reported citing state-run Ahram online.

Egypt began to implement the curfew Aug 14 as part of a state of emergency declared in light of the turmoil that followed a dispersal operation against two sit-in camps supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi.
