Johannesburg, May 4 (ANI): South African cricketer JP Duminy has expressed his happiness after being named in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, adding that he is eager to repay the Proteas team management for the faith they have shown in him.
Duminy, who was out of the team after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in a freak accident during the first Test against Australia last November, said that although he understood the challenge to play cricket at international level again after a long injury, but he felt mentally and physically up to the task, Sport24 reports.
Stating that he is looking forward to making his contributions to the team in the eight-nation tournament, Duminy expressed his gratitude to the management for choosing him for the squad, saying that being in the team environment has been a key for his return and has helped a lot in regaining his confidence level.
According to Duminy, working with coach Gary Kirsten has helped him understand his role within the team, and added that he is confident that his side can win the Champions Trophy if they stayed focused as the team has a good combination of youth and experience.
Expressing gratitude to his medical staff at his domestic side Cape Cobras, Duminy said that he is feeling that he is recovering quickly as he has been doing a lot of strength work on the Achilles, along with working out and running. (ANI)
