DoPT extends e-IPO facility for payment of RTI fee

New Delhi, Oct. 8 (ANI): Another landmark has been achieved towards the transparency regime, after the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday extended the Electronic Indian Postal Order (e-IPO) facility for payment of RTI Fee and costs by Indian Citizens.

Commodore (Retired) Lokesh K. Batra, who has pioneered the movement, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs, the DoPT, Department of Posts (DOP), and Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the NIC (DOP).

"They all deserve kudos for well co-ordinated effort for making it happen in record time of two months. My proposal was sent only on 01 August 2013," Batra said,

In addition to 176 Public Authorities, the eIPO facility will cover 2,492 Public Authorities in India and abroad under Central Ministries, Departments, UTs and NCT Delhi, which Batra termed as a 'huge achievement'.

To popularize the awareness of the e-IPO facility, Batra said that initially there was little awareness among "Indian Citizens' Abroad", including Indian Missions.

However, an awareness campaign for e-IPO facility was launched on 5 July, 2013 starting with Batra's letter to MOIA Minister, Vayalar Ravi, and later to the Ministry of External Affairs.

"Both Ministries provide complete support to the idea and issued advisories to the Heads of all Indian Missions on 23 July 2013 (MOIA) and 02 August 2013 (MEA) respectively (MOIA and MEA letters attached)," Batra said.

He added: "From 19 August, 2013 onwards, I started interacting directly with Indian Missions exchanging over 250 email-letters and few telephonic calls too. The result is that as on 6 October, of the 152 Missions, 128 (84 percent) have already posted eIPO Info."

With a look at the future of the e-IPO facility for citizens living in India, Batra proposed to the Secretary to consider extending the existing e-IPO facility that covers about 2,530 Public Authorities in India and abroad for citizens living in India. (ANI)
