Demonstrations against Kerala Chief Minister Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), June 17 (ANI): Students belonging to the Democratic Youth Federation of india took out a demonstration here today, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oomen Chandy.

They accused him of involvement in a financial scam. The protest turned violent and the police used tear gas shells and water cannons to disperse the protesters.

The demonstrators were seen taking refuge behind police barricades to save themselves from the gas and water cannons. Five protesters were injured. The protesters also carried injured demonstrators to an ambulance.

Chandy is allegedly involved in the solar panels fraud. The scam relates to fraudulent solar panel installation deals offered by a firm owned Saritha Nair and her friend Biju Radhakrishnan

According to investigation two officials from the Chief Minister's staff made a number of calls to Saritha Nair, an accused in the fraud. The two officials were later removed from their positions. (ANI)
