Delhi Metro sets new passenger record

New Delhi, Feb 12 (IANS) Delhi Metro ridership touched a new high Monday with nearly 23 lakh commuters using the transport facility on the day, a metro official said.

The Metro trains carried 22,89,617 passengers Monday, surpassing the 22,77,751 figure of Nov 27, a Metro official said Tuesday.

"Delhi Metro carried nearly 23 lakh passengers on a single day, which surpassed the earlier record set on Nov 27 when 22,77,151 lakh people travelled by the Metro," a Delhi Metro statement said.

The usually overcrowded Blue Line (Dwarka-Noida City Centre/Vaishali) recorded the maximum ridership of 8,86,774 followed by Yellow Line (Jahangirpuri-Huda City Centre) at 8,11,079 commuters.

The Red Line (Dilshad Garden to Rithala) took over three lakh passengers.

Of the other two Metro corridors, Line 6 Violet Line (Central Secretariat to Badarpur) carried 1,72,717 people and Green Line (Inderlok to Mundka) had 81,158 commuters. The two Metro corridors have lower ridership than the other Metro lines.

Delhi Metro, the city's lifeline, ferries nearly two million passengers on week days and makes over 2,800 trips daily.
