Delhi criminal with Rs.50,000 bounty held

New Delhi, June 27 (IANS) A criminal carrying a bounty of Rs.50,000 and his associate were arrested here, police said Thursday.

Sunil, 32, who was carrying a reward of Rs.50,000, was caught three days ago. His associate was taken into custody Wednesday, police said.

A resident of Wazirpur area in west Delhi, Sunil had been evading arrest after jumping parole in 2010 in a murder case, police said.

"In 2005, Sunil worked as a cable operator. He killed a man in Shastri Nagar area in 2006 and was sentenced to life imprisonment two years later. In 2010, he was granted parole but he never returned to jail. In the meantime, he committed a series of robberies along with his gang members," said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police.

In April 2012, he along with his associates robbed Rs.25 lakh from a businessman in south Delhi's Defence Colony area, he said.

After his questioning, Karnail Singh, 40, who was involved in more than 76 criminal cases, was arrested Wednesday.

"Karnail used to provide arms to Sunil," a police official said.
