What’s the story?
Virender Sehwag, who is known for his quirky tweets was at his hilarious best after India defeated Australia in the fourth and final Test at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala. By doing so, they won the series 2-1 and reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which they had lost to the Kangaroos in 2014-15.
Sehwag formed his own version of awards which he named the “gharelu awards”
In case you didn’t know...
Over the past year or so, Sehwag has never missed an opportunity to express his wit on the social media platform. Whether it's someone’s birthday or a match between two sides, Sehwag has shown the world a different side of his personality through his tweets.
After a hard fought series, India defeated Australia by 8 wickets in the fourth and final Test. Chasing 106 for victory, KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane ensured no hiccups as they chased down the total with ease.
The stand-in captain came out with an attacking mindset and counter-attacked the Australian bowlers brilliantly with a quick-fire knock of 38 in 27 deliveries which consisted of four fours and two sixes.
With a lot of sledging and on-field banter between the cricketers on the field throughout the series, Sehwag decided to join in as well by referring to Smith as a tubelight.
A Tubelight is a slang word used for someone who takes too long to understand something. It is possible that Sehwag might have been referring to Smith’s DRS incident in the second Test in Bangalore where he looked towards the dressing room in an attempt to ask his teammates whether he should review the decision against him or not.
Smith also suffered a “brain fade” in the third Test in Ranchi when he left alone a Ravindra Jadeja delivery which went on to hit the stumps.
As usual, Sehwag garnered a lot of attention because of his quirky tweet and it would be extremely interesting to see whether the Australian captain would reply to the former Indian batsman. However, the tweet was all in good fun and should not really cause any trouble or controversy between the two.
