If you’ve ever gotten your legs waxed, you know that you don’t really understand how much it hurts until you do it. Now imagine it’s your first time getting your legs waxed, so your dad goes on a trial run for you.
This happened to one Redditor who, when she decided she wanted to get her legs waxed at age 16 in time for prom, had one very concerned dad. So concerned, in fact, that he booked a waxing appointment for himself to make sure she’d be OK when she had it done.
User carlinha1289 recalled on Reddit that at the time, her dad said he’d, “do some research and book an appointment.” Not too long after he told her she was allowed to do it, but not on her upper legs.
Over a decade later during a visit back home, carlinha1289 went to see her waxist who revealed the 10-year secret about her dad’s “research.”
“After all the catch up we did (a good five years!) she said she had to tell me something,” carlinha1289 wrote.
“She told me that before my first appointment, my dad had called her and booked an appointment for himself,” carlinha1289 wrote. “He spoke to her about her techniques and whatnot. He requested a full leg shave and she was happy to oblige. After he was done, he told her that he really didn’t enjoy any of it but that his 16 year old daughter wanted to have [sic] her legs waxed and that he wanted to try it first. He booked an appointment for me that very same day. However, the waxer says that he called the very next day saying he had bruising on his upper legs and that it hurt. The waxer said it was possible and somewhat common, so he vetoed the upper leg for me.” Our hearts have melted.
“The thing is, this is exactly like my dad. It’s something he would do and it’s something he’d probably never ever tell me he did.”
“It was just another reminder of how thoughtful he is and always was.”
Other Reddit users praised her dad for his noble gesture.
“Man this is incredible. He went through it himself to make sure it’d be ok for you. That’s parenthood right there,” one said.
Or as another put it: “Dad of the year award??” More like, dad of the decade.
