Crucial BCCI meeting on Sunday

An emergent working committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be held here on Sunday, the board’s interim president Jagmohan Dalmiya said. This could be the last working committee meeting before the AGM, due to be held in September. The meeting comes at a crucial
time as the Supreme Court hearing on the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the BCCI against a Bombay high court verdict ruling its fixing probe panel was ‘illegal and unconstitutional’ is due on Thursday.

Dalmiya though said the Supreme Court hearing would have no bearing on the AGM date. “Both are completely different issues,” he said. He was non-committal when asked if BCCI chief N Srinivasan would attend the meeting.

The agenda for the meeting includes deciding the date of the AGM. Also on the cards is revising the schedules of the South Africa and New Zealand tours as well as the Asia Cup. The BCCI’s annual finance report and balance sheet too would be placed in Sunday’s meeting. “The business aspect aside, we would also discuss the proposal for setting up zonal academies,” said Dalmiya.
