London, Feb. 1 (ANI): Victoria sponge has been crowned as Britain's favourite tea time treat.
National Trust, famous for its tea shops, announced that they had sold more than 171,000 slices of the sponge cake in 2012, the Daily Mail reported.
According to the survey published in the National Trust magazine, the cake sold 50 percent more than its closest rival - the chocolate sponge - which sold a total of 108,000 slices.
Crunchy coffee and walnut cake came in as the third favourite, with 102,000 slices being consumed each year - closely followed by spicy carrot cake that was eaten by 96,000 people.
In fifth place, tangy lemon drizzle cake - a relatively new entry to the trust's cake charts - sold 52,000 slices. (ANI)
