'Chirpy' Bush eager to go home after successful heart surgery

Washington, Aug. 7 (ANI): Former president George W. Bush has successfully undergone heart surgery to open a blocked artery and is eager to return home.

According to the statement released by spokesman Freddy Ford, Bush was in high spirits and eager to return home and resume his normal schedule.

The surgery followed Bush's annual physical examination when doctors found the blockage.

A stent, which is a tube that is placed in the artery to keep it open, was placed during the minor surgery at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital without complications, ABC News reports.

The minimally invasive procedure is very common and takes about an hour to complete, Dr. John McPherson, a cardiovascular specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, said. (ANI)
