Chinese boat held for fishing in Japanese waters

Tokyo, Jan 24 (IANS) Japan Thursday detained a Chinese fishing boat for unauthorised fishing in waters around Nagasaki prefecture, the Chinese Consulate General said.

The prefecture is located on the Kyushu island.

The boat, registered in China's Zhejiang province, was detained at around 2.00 p.m. in the exclusive economic waters near Nagasaki's Goto city, Xinhua reported.

There were eight crew members, all Chinese nationals, on board when the boat was caught. The captain, Jiang Yufen, was taken on board a Japanese patrol vessel for questioning and will be transferred to Hakata port in Fukuoka prefecture.

Other crew members and the boat were still in the waters where the incident happened, the report said in the evening. The consulate urged the Japanese side to ensure the safety of the Chinese sailors.
